Water Safety
Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death among children ages 1 to 14. It is estimated that 85 percent of boating-related drownings could have been prevented if the victim had been wearing a life jacket.

Annual Water Safety Education Program

Water Safety Program (for children ages 6-14); 2 hours 30-minutes. Hands-on activities held at pool.

Annual Life Jacket Give Away

The Life Jacket Give Away is a community safety fair specifically targeting boating safety for children ages 4-14. Literature and lifejackets are given out while supplies last. The lifejackets are sized and fitted properly. Child and parent must be present.

Life Jacket Loner Station

The Life Jacket Loaner Station provides lifejackets for boaters on loaner boards near docks and other open water access sites. If you don't have a lifejacket that properly fits your child, borrow one from the Life Jacket Loaner Station and bring it back when you're done.

Loaner Stations in Muscogee County:

  • Goat Rock Lake
  • Lake Harding (Idle Hour DNR Boat Ramp)
  • Rotary Park (Boat Ramp)

School Program

Kids Don't Float Program (for 3rd - 8th grade); 30-minutes

  • Wear a lifejacket at all times while on a boat or watercraft
